Provider COVID-19 Announcement

Delta Dental continues to monitor the coronavirus (COVID-19) situation

Our top priority is to ensure the safety and well-being of our organization while increasing our ability to service your business.

Here are some of the things we have put in place to meet the ongoing needs of our dentists:

  • We have established an executive task force, including our CEO, executive leaders, a physician and an oral surgeon, to continuously monitor federal and state health official websites; to take action in response to this rapidly changing situation.
  • We continue to execute and test multiple scenarios that will ensure our business continues during the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • We implemented work from home capabilities where possible and cancelled all business travel for our employees to keep them safe.

We believe that we have the technology and team in place to continue to serve your needs.

For more resources about COVID-19 please go to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention at cdc.gov.

HHS Announces Enhanced Provider Portal, Relief Fund Payments for Safety Net Hospitals, Medicaid & CHIP Providers

On June 9, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), is announcing additional distributions from the Provider Relief Fund to eligible Medicaid and Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) providers that participate in state Medicaid and CHIP programs. HHS expects to distribute approximately $15 billion to eligible providers that participate in state Medicaid and CHIP programs and have not received a payment from the Provider Relief Fund General Allocation. HHS is also announcing the distribution of $10 billion in Provider Relief Funds to safety net hospitals that serve our most vulnerable citizens. The safety net distribution will occur this week.

Delta Dental and Personal Protective Equipment

Delta Dental of Minnesota values our partnership with the members of our provider networks. We also greatly value those front-line dental professionals facing the COVID-19 crisis. We recognize the major challenges related to the acquisition of personal protective equipment (PPE).

The escalating human toll of COVID-19 has been extremely difficult on so many business sectors whom now require PPE as well. From manufacturing to delivery services to retail operations, PPE is the new normal. The demand is so great, that in addition to hospitals and large health systems, states, local governments and countries now compete to purchase these highly sought-after safety resources, especially N-95 masks.

New Teledentistry Options

Teledentistry provides the means for a patient to receive oral health consultation when the patient and dentist or dental professional are not able to meet in person.

In an effort to help keep dental emergencies out of hospital emergency rooms and allow dentists alternative ways to serve patients during the COVID-19 pandemic, Delta Dental of Minnesota will make an exception and reimburse emergency oral evaluations (DO140) completed via teledentistry in accordance with a member’s benefit plan allowance through July 1, 2021.

Please note that this teledentistry procedure coverage exception only applies to commercial group and individual members. Government program members should continue to follow DHS guidelines on teledentistry.

Please refer to the FAQ section for additional background on teledentistry questions related to the Delta Dental COVID-19 teledentistry exception.

Thank you!
