Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation Celebrates Children’s Dental Health Month with Free Sealant Days Throughout February

More than 1,000 children to receive dental sealants through new initiative MINNEAPOLIS –Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation is launching a Free Sealant Days program Feb. 1, just in time for Children’s Dental Health Month. Throughout the month of February, the program will provide sealants, varnish and other oral health treatments to more than 1,000 Minnesota children in need.

Funded by an $80,000 foundation investment, 8 clinics and up to 28 of their school and community-based service sites throughout the Twin Cities will provide oral health services to underserved children ages 6-12 in need of sealants. Sealants are the most effective preventive measure against tooth decay which, according to a recent report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, affects children without sealants at almost three times the rate than children with them. Throughout the course of February, the program is expected to place more than 4,000 dental sealants.

“Thousands of Minnesota children suffer needlessly each year from tooth decay,” said Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation Executive Director Joe Lally. “With this program, we hope to help these kids focus on school and home, rather than the pain in their mouths.”

Despite easy prevention, tooth decay is the most common childhood disease, and disproportionately affects children from low-income families. Left untreated, tooth decay is painful and distracting.

Complimentary dental services will be offered by appointment to the public as follows. Sites require prior reservation. Be sure to contact a location to confirm service before attending.
