Children’s Dental Services Clinic Expansion Dedication
Public Event To Take Place on Thursday, May 15, 2014
MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (May 13, 2014) – Children’s Dental Services, through the support of Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation, announces the new Children’s Dental Services clinic expansion, in dedication to Dr. John McKay Williams.
Children’s Dental Services (CDS) is committed to providing oral health outreach, education, preventive and restorative treatment to children and pregnant women. CDS serves all children, from birth to age 21, regardless of family income or background.
The clinic will be dedicated in honor of Dr. John McKay Williams, a long time oral health advocate and a well-respected member of the community. Dr. Williams owned a dental practice in North Minneapolis where he focused his practice on serving African American families. Dr. Williams unexpectedly passed away in 2012. Since his death, and at the personal request of his widow, Dr. Williams’ practice has been sending patients to CDS, in an effort to maintain the same community connection that he so passionately established. Unfortunately, CDS was unable to accommodate the increased number of patients at its headquarters location.
CDS has since successfully raised funds through its capital campaign to purchase a new building space to expand its service capacity and accommodate its growing patient base. Additionally, a generous $200,000 gift from the Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation allowed CDS to complete the expansion, which will provide critically needed dental services and continuity of care to over 2,000 low-income children and pregnant women.
The clinic dedication will take place on Thursday, May 15, 2014 from 3:00-6:00pm at the Children’s Dental Services office at 728 E. Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. The event is free and open to the public. Minnesota Commissioner of Health, Dr. Edward Ehlinger will be present.
