Delta Dental of Minnesota 2014 Year End Grants

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (January 8, 2015) - Delta Dental of Minnesota Community Benefit and Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation awarded 8 grants totaling $645,000 in 2014 year-end giving to programming that supports Delta Dental of Minnesota’s mission of improving health through oral health.

Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation awarded 2 grants totaling $400,000 to programming that supports the mission of improving oral health in Minnesota. The inviteonly applicants support the causes to help address access in Minnesota through preventive and educational services, workforce strategies and by optimizing the capacity of the safety net oral health system to help the underserved.

Year-end Delta Dental of Minnesota Foundation grants included:

University of Minnesota Foundation: Minneapolis, Minnesota, $100,000 Walker Dental Clinic: Increase the availability of specialized community-based oral health care and unique workforce training in geriatrics, particularly for older adults with special health care needs, financial limitations and other potential barriers to accessing care.

National Children’s Oral Health Foundation, Statewide Minnesota, $300,000* Improve the oral health for children considered at-risk of experiencing dental disease. The program implements proven models, focuses on education and prevention and leverages the knowledge and resources of a multi-disciplinary group of stakeholders.

Delta Dental of Minnesota Community Benefit awarded 6 responsive grants totaling $245,000 to programming that supports the mission of improving health through oral health in Minnesota. Non-profit organizations were encouraged to apply for grants that support areas of prevention, access, workforce and education.

A complete list of Delta Dental of Minnesota Community Benefit grants included below:

Family Healthcare, NW Greater Minnesota, $50,000 Demonstrate improvement in clinical outcomes for patients diagnosed with uncontrolled Type II diabetes following the consistent provision of non-surgical periodontal care. Minneapolis Heart

Institute Foundation, SW Greater Minnesota, $43,000 Partner with oral health care providers to address risk factors that impact not only oral health, but also heart health. Community Dental Care, Twin Cities Metro, $50,000 Community Dental Care’s Robbinsdale Dental Clinic expansion and renovation. NorthPoint Health & Wellness Center, Twin Cities Metro, $27,000 Provide oral health dental screenings at three North Minneapolis Charter Schools for children identified as at-risk.

Pillsbury United Communities, Twin Cities Metro, $35,000 Diversify the dental workforce by recruiting low-income, East African students, a traditionally underrepresented demographic in dentistry. Portico Healthnet, Twin Cities Metro, $40,000 Expand access to oral health care for underserved, low-income children and families through screenings and enrollment in dental and health insurance coverage.
