Local libraries recognized by Delta Dental of Minnesota during National Smile Month

Community members nominated the libraries in Grand Forks, Williston, and Stanley

MINNEAPOLIS – Few places are more central to a community than its public library. And few people visit their local branch to only check out a book. Today, libraries have become resource hubs for everything from education programs and community forums to application assistance and health care information.

That’s why Delta Dental of Minnesota is proud to announce its support of three North Dakota libraries today as a part of National Smile Month. The Grand Forks Public Library, Williston Community Library, and Stanley Public Library will receive a collective total of 1,008 toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste from Delta Dental of Minnesota. Each was nominated by a community member for this donation.

“National Smile Month is about celebrating and supporting the organizations that improve oral health by strengthening the communities they serve. We’re honored to recognize these library systems for the important role they play in strengthening their communities,” said Rod Young, CEO and president of Delta Dental of Minnesota.

According to a 2015 Pew Research Center survey, 81% of people believe that libraries provide resources that would be hard to find elsewhere, and 86% of people say a library can be helpful for people seeking health information.

Every weekday in June, Delta Dental of Minnesota is donating up to 1,000 toothbrushes and tubes of toothpaste to community nonprofit organizations in Minnesota and North Dakota. Chosen organizations are announced each weekday on Facebook and Twitter.

With the tagline #InspiringSmilePower, National Smile Month activities aim to encourage regular brushing, reduce sugary food and drink intake, and remind people to visit a dentist regularly. To learn more, visit our website.
